C: FULL; Try to move Postgres to another harddrive

Postby oli2222 » Wed Jul 23, 2008 1:23 pm

Hi,

I backed up my two databases and just in case that doesn't work, extracted all hh files.

Then I deinstalled Postgres SQL but then the problem stars. My Postgres SQL folder is still there and the databases are also where they shouldn't be any more. Did I do something wrong?
Can someone help?

Uninstalling PostgreSQL won't delete your ../data folder you would have to do that manually. Then when you reinstall PostgreSQL, make sure that you tell it to install on the new drive and not the C drive.

I may have a little problem. I could not install the program with the user postgres since still exists .... So I used the username "schmitto" and could install. but after entering the new user and password in pt it still can not connect. So I opend the admin panel and there I was able to connect the second database.... Can you tell me what I am doing wrong pat?

Also PT still shows the old databases: http://img360.imageshack.us/img360/9606 ... s04lo9.png

The values on the File > Maintain Database Names window are no longer of any use because you have reinstalled PostgreSQL and need to restore your old db's.

Since you installed PostgreSQL 8.3, you need to do this extra step.
archives/PT2/viewtopic.php?t=24880

Then you need to open the Utilities > PostgreSQL Settings window, delete the entry there now and add a new one

port - 5432
user - schmitto
p/w - whatever you used for installing 8.3
ODBC Entry - PostgreSQL Unicode
Encoding - UNICODE

Save the changes.

Then go to the PostgreSQL Database Functions window and click the "Important: If you are prompted to enter a password..." link at the bottom of the window and make the changes to the pg_hba.conf file as detailed there.

Then restore one of your backup databases files. After the restore is done, go to the File > Maintain Database Names window, click the Add button, enter a new name, check the "Dflt" box, in the last field choose "Select existing PostgreSQL database" from the list and select the db you just restored. Click the OK button to save the changes then CLOSE AND REOPEN PT.

Pat you are my hero! Thank you!

Everything seems to work but I have one question. While restoring the first database I got this "role does not exist" massages. I changed the entry to trust before i started with the second database. Do I need to worry?

No, that shouldn't be a problem you get those kinds of warnings a lot when restoring from an older version of PostgreSQL to a newer one.

The databases are maked and stats are being shown. Why does this error messag appear?

I'm not sure about that, you might have to post this on the PokerAce forum.

In the PokerAce database configuration window, you should make sure that just those databases that you restored and added new entries for on the File > Maintain Database Names window in PT are highlighted. It may be that it's trying to look for some of the old databases which no longer exist.
