15 million hands. Import suggestions.

Postby chuckk » Fri Feb 15, 2008 12:05 am

I have over 15 million hands that I will be importing into PT3. How long is this expected to take? Is it recommended to import them in batches (say 500k at a time) . I am taking a vacation from March 17-19 and would like to have the hands import at that time. I will have someone at my house monitoring the imports to make sure everything runs smoothly. Will 3 days be sufficient time? I already have all my HH's backed up on DVD's so no exporting will be needed.

also what DATA will not be shown if I decide to convert PT2>PT3 rather than import the HH's into PT3. I read somewhere you won't get all the data PT3 can use but never saw a listing of what DATA that is. What are the majority of testers doing? converting or exporting then importing?

I am assuming no database caching is required in PT3/HUD. Last time I had to create a cache that took 2 days alone.

sorry if these questions have been asked, I searhed and couldn't find them.

thanks,

chuck

I am glad that you will be waiting to do this until March 17-19th when we are a little closer to the final release. I would certainly not do this now.

There will be no external cache although we will be creating one directly in the database that is updated on the import so this should not be an issue any longer.

Ideally, I would delete all of your indexes (except any unique keys) then index once the import is complete. As far as importing in batches or in a straight shot, I am not really sure. I may need to think about that a little more.

Best regards,

Derek

Er... Buy a quad core, 4GB of RAM, A Raptor X hard drive and then import using that?

In all seriousness you're probably better off doing in batches as if you run into an error with 15KK hands you may have to start ALLLLLLL over again.

On a standard system that imports at about 90 hands per second, it'll take 47 hours to import all the hands.

If you can hire someone to watch your PT3 imports, I'm sure you can afford a decent computer. :P
