postgres- new to poker tracker

Postby nickbunn » Fri Aug 15, 2008 2:13 pm

I am new to poker tracker and have recently purchased it. I`ve downloaded it, installed it but can`t get it started.
When i open it up it says : Unable to create Postgres SQL database (template 1). Reason:
could not connect to server: Connection refused
(0x0000274D/10061) Is the server running on host "local host"
and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432?

When i press ok a grey box appears with all this info in. Where do i check the server?

Do you have postgres installed?
If not, the first time you install you must download and install PT3 WITH postgres.

I have postgres installed its just not connecting. I`ve searched for the postmaster.pid to delete it and can`t find this anywhere. Would i be better off uninstalling pt3, postgres, pt2 and the hud? If so how do i do this? I have registered pt3 and pt2 with the codes provided if i uninstall will i need new codes?

You shouldn't need to uninstall.
What version of Postgres do you have?
Are you using Vista? Do you have everything running as administrator?

I have postgres8.3 and i`m using vista. pt2 pt3 and hud are all running as adminstrator. I first downloaded pt3 with postgres and used the trial for a bit, but i uninstalled pt3 (but not postgres) and installed pt3 again without postgres so i could start again from scratch. Do you think thats the problem?

No, that shouldn't be the problem.
Were you able to run PT3 before you uninstalled it?

Did you see this post: Attn: Vista Users Installing PostgreSQL 8.3

You could try uninstalling postgres, but you will need to be careful not to lose your databases.
See the Database / Postgres FAQ for how to backup your database.

I was able to run pt3 before and the hands i did download i don`t need them. I play on betfair and you can`t use pt3 with betfair yet so i was going to use pt2. Does pt2 use postgres too? I have checked the postgres8.3 vista can`t seem to find anything. I think i should start from scratch again. do you uninstall pt2 and hud the same? If i uninstall will i need new codes to register? thanks!

PT2 can use postgres but doesn't have to. By default it uses Access databases, which doesn't require any config from you.

You really shouldn't need to uninstall PT2 and PAH (or even PT3, really). If you uninstall/reinstall posgres they should all pick up the new install fine.
If you do decide to remove and re-install them your same codes will still work so make sure you keep them safe.
