i did that but it says

Unable to create PostgreSQL database: PT3 Beta DB1
Reason: Unable to login to database (template1). Reason: could not connect to server: Connection refused (0x0000274D/10061) Is the server running on host "localhost" and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432?

I am encountering the same error message. What was the resolution to this?

Actually, this was the error. Similar but not exact:

Did you get postgres installed OK?
Have you had it running OK before?
Is postgres running now? Check Task Manager / Processes.

Please try starting the postgres service: Start -> Programs -> PostgreSQL -> Start Service.
If that, and a reboot doesn't work, try stopping the service (Start -> Programs -> Postgres -> Stop Service), running a search on your computer for postmaster.pid and then deleting that file, then restarting the service and see if that helps.
Note that you may need to turn on 'View hidden files and folders', and the file seems to be in the folder './Program Files/postgresql/<version>/data'

I have been trying to get this nonsense to work for hours - this is frustrating as all hell. This crap we have to dowload takes f'ing forever.



I liked this 100x more a year or two when the process was simple - take that into consideration the next time you make us jump through hoops to get stuff to work. I play poker, not a damn computer tech.

Are you using Vista? It's that which causes most of the problems - on XP I can just download and install PT3 with postgres and it all works straight away.
If you're still having trouble, let us know where, and we'll try to help.

I am a windows vista user, ihad the message failed to find a process etc initdb. I have done as suggested and downloaded the service pack and I have downloaded the post 2.7, my problem is I don’t know what zip is or how to do it, I have tried and tried but failed.

To extract the zip file, right click on it and choose Extract All.
Make sure it's in it's own separate folder first.

i have turned it into a folder and i have a justzipit on the go, but when i right click on it i see no extract option. what is this extraction? and where is it?
