setting up PT3 on a second computer

yes, thats what i was looking for. I entered the data and this error message came up:

Unable to create PostgreSQL database: PT3_2008_08_31_173930
Reason: Unable to login to database (template1). Reason: FATAL: no pg_hba.conf entry for host "192.168.0.138", user "postgres", database "template1", SSL off


what now?

please remember, im computer illiterate, i just play poker, so im very confused by all of this.

That sounds like you don't have everything set up correctly from the How To: Network PostgreSQL Database.
I haven't done any of this stuff myself, but until someone else gets back to you, have another read through the directions and make sure you have everything right.

followed it to the letter on pc and laptop, been over and checked it twice. i must be missing something....

here is what it says at the bottom of my pg_hba.conf file

# TYPE DATABASE USER CIDR-ADDRESS METHOD

host all all 192.168.0.0/32 md5


and the bottom of my postgresql.conf:

the ip address of my pc is 192.168.0.137
the ip address of my laptop is 192.168.0.138
port 5432 is open on my router.
in the create new databse box in pt3 on my laptop i entered 192.168.0.137:5432:dbpass

And that is the file on the SERVER computer, not the laptop, yes?

Do you have firewall software running on the computer that is hosting the postgresql server? If so, you need to either disable it or "punch a hole in it" at port 5432. How to do the punching will depend on what firewall software you are using. This (however) will block the laptop from communicating w/your computer if it is enabled.

yes, that is the file from the server and i did the same to the files on the laptop.

I am running Norton Internet Security on the server so i will try and open port 5432. It is already open on my d-link router.

ok, i opened up the port on my norton firewall and i still get the same error message:

Change the following on the server in the pg_hba.conf file:

host all all 192.168.0.0/32 md5

to this:

host all all 192.168.0.0/24 md5

Then go to start -> programs -> postgresql -> reload configuration.

ok, changed the pg_hba and now database PT3_2008_08_31_173930 has been created on my laptop, but it doesn't have anything in it....
