Unable to log on to database(PT3DB)

Postby hiflyer51 » Wed Sep 10, 2008 9:05 pm

Began Auto-Import and got this message:

Unable to log on to database(PT3DB) Reason: Server closed the connection unexpectedly. This probably means the server terminated abnormally before or while processing the request.

How do I correct this???

I am a new user, loaded the trial version.
When it works properly, i'll register.
However i'm encountering the same problem skipjack had.

After first installation it worked fine, the next day the error pops up.

The link skipjack refers to gives me only the general forum window and i can't find the solution (up till now).

I run PT3 the beta version and postgres 8.3.
I run as computer administrator.

This seems to be a known problem, so i hope help will be on its way.

Thanks in advance.

This means that postgres isn't running.
Please try starting the postgres service: Start -> Programs -> PostgreSQL -> Start Service.
If that, and a reboot doesn't work, try stopping the service (Start -> Programs -> Postgres -> Stop Service), running a search on your computer for postmaster.pid and then deleting that file, then restarting the service and see if that helps.
Note that you may need to turn on 'View hidden files and folders', and the file seems to be in the folder './Program Files/postgresql//data'.

This is not the same as running PT3 and your poker site as administrator.
Right click the shortcut and select 'Run As Administrator'.

Thanks,

Found the other thread aswell and stopped/started the service.
It's importing hand histories now, getting some other problems.
I'll give rebooting a try next and check out the administrator thing.
I'll be working on those problems looking through the threads, if i need more help ( ) i'll be sure to post.

Thanks for the speedy reply.

If it's importing hands then postgres is working.
Are you getting import errors?

What version of PT3 are you using?
What poker site?

Please see this post for how to fully uninstall and re-install.
Total uninstall/reinstall of pt3

Note: if you previously installed PT3 with postres and it worked, you can do that again, you don't need to do the manual postgres installed.
