Third day of trial

Postby Keifullstop » Tue Oct 07, 2008 8:08 am

Second day and second big problem with postgres and pt3...First one was easy to solve...This one seems not...After having uninstalled and re-installed postgres manually to get rid of the first "common" problem for the first few times it all went good...Today as i switched on the pc when i opened pt3 i got this error:

Unable to login to database (PT3 DB). Reason: FATAL: could not open relation 1664/0/2676: Permission denied

Don't know what to do...Anybody can help?...Again...Xp...No antivirus only ZoneAlarm...Re-installed manully postgres...

Is postgres running? Check Task Manager -> Processes for postgres processes.

I wonder if this is the same issue.

There are two main reasons for this error. The first is a result of data corruption from a computer crash that requires reindexing your database. You can reindex your database from the PostgreSQL command prompt. Click Start --> Programs --> PostgreSQL --> Command prompt. At the prompt that appears, type “reindexdb -a” and hit enter. Be aware that if you have large databases this may take a while, so be patient and wait for it to finish.
(If the re-index doesn't work because you are not logged in as user 'postgres' enter: "reindexdb -U postgres -a").

The second reason for this error is a result of faulty hardware. You can set PostgreSQL to ignore these errors by clicking Start --> Programs --> PostgreSQL --> Configuration Files --> Edit postgresql.conf. In the configuration file that appears, go to the bottom of the file and add the text “zero_damaged_pages = on” on a new line and then save and close the file. Click Start --> Programs --> PostgreSQL --> Reload Configuration and PostgreSQL will ignore the damaged data. If you continue to have problems with that hard drive, you should consider replacing it.

Neither method worked...the first one...As i write reindexdb -a he asks me for a password...I've tried both of them but neither is correct...As i write reindexdb - U postgres -a he again asks for a password...The account pass is uncorrect but as i write the database password he responds:

reindexdb: could not connect to database postgres: FATAL: colud not open relation 1663/11511/1259: Permission denied

The second one...I added the line zero_damaged_pages=on at the bottom line of postgresql.conf...Saved...Closed...Reloaded configuration...Opened pt3...Still the same error...

What to do?:(...

Have you tried completely disabling ZoneAlarm then Stopping and Starting PostgreSQL?

  1. Completely shut down ZoneAlarm
  2. Go Start->Programs->PostgreSQL->Stop Service
  3. Then Start->Programs->PostgreSQL->Start Service
Hopefully that resolves the issue. Something is adversely affecting Postgres. If that does not work, send me a a message via this link and we'll schedule a remote assistance session.

Again it stopped working today with the same error and it makes me sick to uninstall-reinstall postgres everytime...Could you please give me another code for pt2(and pahud)?...I'd like to go back to it....Enthusiast for the new pt3 i erased it and now i don't have a tracker working properly anymore...I swear i'll buy pt3 once it's more clear what sort of error it is and it's possible to have it working better (or i buy a new laptop which will be soon i think...) cause i like it so much and it really piss me off that doesn't work on my pc...
