lifetime import from stars problems

Postby devon06atX » Tue Oct 14, 2008 1:01 pm

hey there, I recently requested my lifetime of hands from stars which they complied. They sent a bunch of zip files with all the hands included.

When I unzip a specific file, it results in one file called 'Hands'. I then copied this file to the directory that PT3 reads from (c:/programfil/poke/handhistory/devon.. etc.) and started the auto-import. my plan was to import the hands, zip file by zip file. obv. this will take a very long time, but that's not a problem.

Obviously this 'Hands' file is huge. However, thats not the problem. After importing roughly 30k hands, whenever I clicked on texas hold'em tab, there were no stats at all. No list of players, nothing. I even stopped the auto-import to see if that was the problem, and still, no stats. closed the program, opened it up, etc. still no stats are shown.

I'm curious as to why the importer is importing all these hands, yet there are no stats at all to show. I'm obviously under the assumption I'm doing something wrong here.. but I don't know what.

running the most up-to-date version of PT3, on vista if thats of any concern.

As always, your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

After you import new hands you need to click the Refresh button.
Also make sure you have no filters set - click Clear.

i should have stated that i had already done that.

i am 'somewhat' competent w/ pt3 ya know ;)

still nothing. thinking maybe something was wrong with the first file, i purged the DB, picked a smaller zip file to unzip and import - imported all 20k hands, went back, refreshed - nothing. no filters either

even tried housekeeping, thinking that may have been the issue. still nothing

Re: lifetime import from stars problems

Postby devon06atX » Tue Oct 14, 2008 2:10 pm

hmmm, an update.

After trying everything under the sun (and nothing worked) i decided, ah screw it, just gonna ditch this - and changed my active DB back to my normal "Pokertracker 3 Database". I *was* trying to import my hands into a newly created database called "Lifetime Database". Before I tried to import I had also set the active and default database to the new Lifetime Database, yet it had imported into my old pokertracker 3 database.

so now I have my old database that I wasn't intending on importing my lifetime hands into, getting hands from last yr imported into it - even though its not set as the active + default database.

thats not a big deal though, I'm intending on just having a lifetime DB and starting a new one as soon as I get these hands imported. So basically, how come it was importing the old hands into my inactive, non-default DB when it was supposed to be importing into my newly created DB?

at least we're moving forward

edit: just tried changing around the 'default/active' options around from my "My pokertracker 3 DB" and my new "Lifetime Database" and regardless of what I do, it's always importing the hands to the "My pokertracker 3 DB". know how I can fix this? Don't exactly want to have my lifetime hands all in on database as I'm assuming it'll slow many things down a lot. What's the point of being able to create a new database if I can't import the hands into them? any suggestions?

nevermind, i'm a moron.

was unaware that setting the database to active + default didn't automatically make it the database that hands get imported to. gotta do that in the auto-import tab. stupid me.

Sorry I didn't get back to you in time, but glad that you worked it out!
(and I didn't mean to imply you're not competent, but you'd be surprised how often that is the problem! ;) )

You should use manual import for large imports like this. It will be much faster.
