Cache Problem (First Time User)

Postby VeraN » Sat Mar 01, 2008 1:59 pm

Sorry if this was asked, I tried searching for this problem through the search function but could not find any answers.

I just bought and installed Poker Ace last night and had an unusually long time trying to create my first cache. I don't know the cause of the problem, it could be a large database or some kind of unexpected error but I finally terminated the program this morning when I woke up and found no progress on the cache creation.

After failing to create the first cache, I keep getting a "PokerAce Hud Error! Unable to update cache. An exception has occured" error even after uninstalling and reinstalling the program.

I use Windows Vista and have 2 gigs of ram. The program is set to run on administrator mode.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Open 'My Computer' and browse to your main PokerAce Hud directory then go Data/Temp. Delete any file named DBCache*.* Now go to your Data/Config directory and open 'PAHud.cfg' in Notepad. Change the line, 'Logging=N' to 'Logging=Y'. File->Save. Start PokerAce Hud and your cache should be entirely recreated. If it does not complete, please send me the PAHud.log file located in your main PokerAce Hud directory, via the [url=http://www.pokertracker3.com/support/r1m]Support system[/urlr1m] so that I can troubleshoot the issue.

If it says something is using the cache file, please open Task Manager and see the processes list - sometimes PAHud.exe can remain here after you close it and you need to "end process". This should free up the cache file.

If this doesn't help, When you open pahud.cfg use the "Find" function of your editor to search for "logging".

I have tried the instructions in this thread.
I delete the DBCache file no problem.
But when I try to change Logging=N to Logging=Y in notepad it won't let me.

I get the following error:
Cannot create the C:\Program Files\PokerAceHud\Data\Config\PAHud.cfg file.
Make sure that the path and file name are correct.

Not sure what I need to do in order for it to allow me to save my attempt to change it to Logging=Y

Thanks in advance for your help.

Okay...this is kind of weird.

Now I still get the pop-up that says "unable to create cache. an exception has occurred" and then after I click OK I get another pop-up 2 or 3 seconds later that says "database cache update is complete".

So I don't know if I really have a cache or not. Is there some way I can check to see that the cache might possibly actually be there even though I'm still getting one pop-up that it says it is unable to do the cache thing?

Thanks.

If you are unable to save the config file then it sounds like you have a permissions issue.
What operating system are you using? Are you running as an administrator?

If the cache creation is failing/taking only that short time then it's not working (assuming you have plenty of data in your DB?).

I have over 80k hands in my database now.

I am on Vista and run PAHud as administrator.

I also just tried switching notepad to "run as administrator" (just a hunch) but that didn't fix it either. I still get the same error message when I try to change it to "Logging =Y"

I'm not getting the 'unable to update' error message every single time now and it is telling me 'database update is complete' more frequently although it doesn't seem to be taking very long.
Still, is it possible that the cache is there? How do I see if the cache is actually doing what it was supposed to?

I doubt that the cache is created properly, but it could be..
If the cache is working properly then the stats will appear on the tables much more quickly when you start up PAH.
