When I open psql to 'postgres' and enter CODE: SELECT ALL nothing happens. I just get another prompt just like the one I just had before I enter CODE: SELECT ALL

This is after I have copied all the contents of the "base" folder within the "data" folder within the "PostgreSQL" folder from my old folder to the new one. Since this was the largest folder I assumed this one was the one with all my DB info in it. Just pasting those contents from the old into the new is the only way I was able to restart postgreSQL after stopping and moving the files over.

So at this point I can get the contents from the folder named "base" from my old postgreSQL folder to the new one and still re-start postgreSQL.

But I Still can't locate my old DB's to assign to PT3.

You don't enter "CODE: SELECT ALL" - that is a link to allow you to select the code..
The bit you enter is the "\l".

got it :)

Now what do I look for in the list. When I enter "\l" I in the prompt I get:

Name:
postgres
template0
template1

Owner listed for all these is:
postgres

Encoding listed for all these is:
SQL-ASCII

Ok, just to be clear on what the steps I have taken and the current configuration after all the installing and uninstalling:

Step 1.) I copied the data folder from the old postgres 8.2 folder in my program files
Step 2.) I disabled UAC in my windows Vista computer
Step 3.) I uninstalled postgres 8.2 from my computer
Step 4.) I re-installed postgres 8.2 (after several unsuccessful attempts to get v8.3 working)
Step 5.) I stopped the postgreSQL service
Step 6.) I copied and pasted the "base" folder within the "data" folder that I copied in step 1 before uninstalling the old postgreSQL into the new base folder within the new data folder in the popstgreSQL folder in Program files
(I tried several attemps at pasting the enitre contents of the data folder in, but I was never able to re-start postgreSQL after pasting all the contents of that folder (I tried a few times on a few different versions of postgreSQL)
Step 7.) I started the PostgreSQL service back up

This is where everything stands now.

Try stopping the PostgreSQL service, copying over the global directory as well (it's also within the data directory, just like the base directory) and restart PostgreSQL and see if that does the trick.

He is available from 10AM-5PM EDT and then again from 11PM-2AM EDT. Please pick a date and time that works best for you and he will add you to his schedule. Please provide him with at least 24 hours advance notice to ensure that he receives your message and is available.

I stopped the service and pasted the contents of the global directory over to the new folder, but afetr I did that I was no longer able to re-start postgres. I got the same error message (I attached a screenshot in the first message on page 2 in this thread) letting me know "Windows could not start the postgreSQL Database Server 8.2 on local computer" (Error 1053).
