Installing Postgre on new PC with 2 Hard Drives.

Postby Kevweiser » Mon Nov 17, 2008 9:55 am

I'm installing PT3/Postgre on a new PC with two hard drives. I've heard that I should keep my DB on a dedicated HD for performance reasons. I'm currently about to install Postgre via the PT3 installation wizard and I have the option to "Install To: C:\Program Files (x86)\PostgreSQL\8.3" by default, should I change this to my second HD? I'm uncertain if installing Postgre to this drive is the same thing as having my poker DB on a dedicated HD.

Certainly you can install postgres on your 2nd disk and that will mean that the databases are stored there - I did that before.
However, I have been told by a postgres expert on this forum that it is better to install postgres on the main drive, and purely run the data on the 2nd drive - that's more complicated to set up, though. Have a look at the Database / Postgres FAQ - I think there are some useful links there.

I took at look at this thead:

Sounds like I should install on the main HD and put the data on the second HD for best performance. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
