please help me make hardrive space

Postby sitting out » Fri Nov 21, 2008 1:35 pm

please help me. i'm not terribly computer literate and all the posts i've found relating to this topic are a little over my head. i have the trial version of PT3 (which has since expired) and my SQL database on my c drive. the database has gotten sooo big that i have less than a gig left. i bought an external firewire drive and would like to move the db over to that drive and then purchase the full version of PT3. can some generous souls please give me step by step instructions on how to move my database over (i'm assuming once it's there i can then unlock the full PT3 on my C drive and then it should be fairly trivial to set up a link between the two).

Also, at present I have one massive database. Is this stupid? should I be managing hand histories in a different way? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance...

I'm not a postgres expert, so I'm not going to try to walk you through this, and the easiest step to start with would be to delete things you don't need from your hard disk or use some sort of disk cleaner application.
If you're not able to free up enough space to back your database up, then have a look at this post which is on a similar subject:

Whether or not you should split your database really depends on how many observed hands you have compared to played hands.
Have a look at the Database / Postgres FAQ.
