Few issues with beta 21 after reinstalling Windows

Postby AntelopeSalad » Sat Nov 29, 2008 5:05 pm

Here's a few little issues with beta 21 after re-installing windows. I'll first add that I didn't do a fresh installation of PT because I install all of my poker apps to a different partition (postgre was wiped though, and required a new installation). I just upgraded over build 3.00 version 2.

1. Player names aren't saving (this was noted in another thread, but since there's a few more issues I figured I'd add it here too).

2. The "remove database" function doesn't seem to work perfectly. It removed my old database from the list but that database is still listed in the PokerTracker.cfg file (under the [Database] section, as Default). Not only that but my original database is also set in "PlayedHandsDatabase" (under [Import]) even though it doesn't exist. I'm not sure if this will have any weird side effects.

3. PT refused to pickup Stars even though the directory existed and was set correctly (under auto-import). I had to literally re-install Stars on top of my existing Stars installation for this to work.

4. PT isn't auto-updating my stats on the HUD. I have to manually open Cash->HUD Options and hit Apply for the HUD to updates hands. I have it set to update every hand. This is a big problem...

Other than that it seems to be working ok. Manual import ran at 300-375 hands/sec for 75k hands. Quite a big improvement over the earlier releases. :D

Edit:

5. I'm not sure if this is a bug in beta 21 or not, but I specifically have it set to "not import observed hands", but the mini-log window at the bottom of the auto-importer is saying that it's importing observed hands (for Stars). Why?

I forgot to mention on #4, Hero's stats are updating every hand no problem. It's just every single villain remains at 1 hand (if they are new players) or xxx where xxx is whatever hands I have logged on them.

All of the names/etc are correct.

This what my options look like:

6. PT isn't detecting when Stars is open for the auto-importer.
Ex. I run PT, then run Stars, PT says Stars isn't running.
or... I open Stars then PT, and it says the same thing.

I have to click "Start automatically", then use the auto-importer for PT to say "Status->Running".

Are you using Vista?
Are you running both PT3 and Pokerstars as Administrator? Right click the shortcut and select 'Run As Administrator'. This is different to being logged in as an Administrator.
Setting software to run in administrator mode - Vista Users

The observed hands for pokerstars will be the 30 that PT is allowed to import per session - I guess maybe that checkbox doesn't prevent these since they're not "imported" from hand history files, they're read direct from the Pokerstars application.

Try rebuilding the cache - another user who reported #4 says this fixed it.

I'm running XP-SP3 and I'm logged in as Admin.

Right after reimporting every hand into the new database the first thing I did was "Housekeeping". All 4 options were checked when I hit begin. I presume it worked because when I came back (I went AFK) there were no errors.

Another thing too (which I included in a Support ticket, after linking this thread) is that beta 21 doesn't want to pickup the Stars process. The only way PT sees Stars as running is when I tell PT to "launch it automatically", but PT doesn't even launch it. The status just changes from Not Running to Running, no errors/etc.

Filters aren't being saved on exit either (probably related to the name not being saved?). Everytime I re-open the app it's querying the entire database.

Here's exactly what I did from step 1, if it helps...

1. Had the latest non-beta release installed on XP-SP2.
[Stars and PT were on my secondary partition while postgre was on the same partition as windows]

1B. Exported all the hands to a directory.

2. Wiped my primary partition and reinstalled windows (XP-SP3).

3. Re-installed postgre onto the same partition as windows (8.3 I believe).

4. Upgraded PT to beta 21 (overwrite the directory because I wasn't sure which files were used to back up my HUD/everything else).

5. Made a new database + removed the old database + set the new database as primary/default.

6. Re-imported all the hands from step 1B.

7. Ran a housekeeping with all 4 options checked.

8. Re-installed Stars to the same directory as before (because the HUD didn't even work until I did this).

Edit:
I'm not using any custom Stars mods either, and while my PT HUD is pretty tweaked it's only using default commands that were included in the initial release (basically it's the default HUD except I added 3 more lines of stats+color coding).

System specs are a Core 2 Duo 6420e with 2GB of RAM. No virus scanners/etc running in the background. Pretty much the most minimal installation of Windows possible (94mb of memory used on a fresh boot when postgre isn't running!).

Edit 2:
Just re-built the cache by itself. Same thing, they don't refresh. Doesn't matter if I have 1 table open or 8 tables open.

Well...

Beta 20 -> Same result, hands don't refresh except for Hero.
Beta 19 -> Same as above.
Build 3.00 b3 (official) -> Same as above.
Beta 17 -> (The build I was using before re-installing I think, I vaguely remember because that had the hot fix for Stars HHs), same as above.

I re-built the cache in between each version switch. Now the HUD is pretty much unusable, having to manually refresh it every hand is unacceptable.

...?

Yes but it previously worked with beta 17 and now it's not. Are you left with an unusable HUD too, or does a previous version work?

It wouldn't be a big deal if one of the versions actually worked.

It seems to be to do with when the database was created - it's working fine for me in Beta21; opponent stats are updating as they should.

But I've just created a new test database and I'm seeing the reported behaviour - my stats update but the other players' don't.
Returning to my previous database and the stats are updating again.

I exported again, fully uninstalled postgre/PTv3. Installed beta 17 from scratch and made a new db. The HUD is back to working.

Is there a time frame on when beta 22 will be out and will it definitely fix the problems listed above? There are a few features missing in beta 17 + it likes to crash randomly (usually 2-3 times in a 4 hour session, no errors... the app just instantly closes). I'm kind of tempted to go back to the PTv2+PEV+PAHUD+Poker Grapher combo that I was using well before PTv3 was even announced.
