I was nearly finished installing PT 3 for the 60 day trial and started getting an "Error" box reading "Service 'PostgreSQL Database Server 8.3' (pgsql-8.3) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services." "Retry" or "Cancel"

I have no idea what to do now. Please help.

Thanks

This error occurs as a result of anti-virus, anti-spyware, or anti-spam software not allowing system services to be installed. Disable these programs and attempt to install again. These issues have been known to happen with IE 8 Beta 2, NOD 32, Norton Antivirus, F-Secure Antivirus, ZoneAlarm and Spampal. Once PostgreSQL has been successfully installed you may reactivate your third-party software.

Thanks for the response Kraada.

I disabled my virus software and then had to uninstall the programs. The installation seemed to be working but then gave me the command to lookup up the 'readme' file in C://Program Files/PostgreSQL/8.3 and to copy it because once I did the file would disappear. So I did copy it but then when I clicked "OK" the installation program started reversing the installations it did and now I'm back to square one.

Is there someway to talk to somebody live? I've been trying to install this thing for a day and a half now and it's really doing my head in.

Thanks for any help.

One other thing: Are you running Windows Vista? If so, please try disabling UAC and installing one more time; that may do the trick (Tutorial: Vista-How to Disable 'User Account Control' (UAC)).

If not, make a ticket here and we'll get you squared away.

I've redone it after disabling UAC. This is the message I got again: "Error: Failed to run initdb: 1! Please see the logfile in 'C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.3\tmp\initdb.lo\. Note! You must read/copy this logfile before you click OK, or it will be automatically removed. OK "

BTW - I am running Vista.

Sorry for the ignorance but what do you mean by post your ticket?

Thanks again for your help

Try installing PostgreSQL 8.2.11 and that might resolve the issue for you; I thought the 8.3.x line had fixed these Vista issues, but it's possible they haven't, so give that a try.

What I meant was to create a support ticket by clicking on this link and including the appropriate logs as then we can look at them and help you get things fixed.

I tried installing 8.2.11 and now I'm getting this message: "Windows Installer" 'This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package.'

Am I the only one having such difficulties installing this program? Is this a Vista issue?

Please help.

You need to unzip the file first, not attempt to run the installer from within the zip. It won't work if you do it that way; extract it to your desktop then run the main installer and it should install properly.

Done. I thought we had it. PostgreSQL seems to be installed but when I went to install PTracker, during the installation when it came to the Configure PostgreSQL Server box, I typed 'dbpass' into the password box and it brought back "Unable to Connect" 'Unable to connect to this database. Please check the configuration'"

Make sure that PT3 is running as Administrator (right click the desktop icon, check 'run as administrator') as that might cause that error for you.

If that's not it, press ctrl+alt+del and click Task Manager -- do you see 6 postgres processes running on the processes tab?
