Can you please copy and paste the contents of that file here so that we can see what it says (if you hit "OK" already you'll need to attempt to install again until it gives that error then go open the file in question and copy and paste the contents before clicking "OK")?

The files belonging to this database system will be owned by user "SYSTEM".
This user must also own the server process.

The database cluster will be initialized with locale English_United States.1252.
The default text search configuration will be set to "english".

creating directory C:/Program Files/PostgreSQL/8.3/data ... initdb: could not create directory "C:/Program Files": File exists

not sure what this means

Did you have PostgreSQL installed before? If not, delete the C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL and then attempt to install again.

If you already had PostgreSQL installed uncheck "initialize database" in the installation and then it won't try to create the database again and it'll just use what's already there.

You can disable password authentication by following the directions of this tutorial. Try that, then it doesn't matter what you put in the password field.
