I started an manual import of 500K hands, had about 1M hands in that particular database before the input.....

Wow legalizeit, I have had the EXACT same problems as you.

Now of course, when I open PT3 I get the 'unable to connect to any postgresql database' error message. I have followed the instructions to remedy this to the letter (including disabling User Account Control) yet still no joy. Postgresql told me I had installed everything properly, yet it isn't running when I check via Task manager.

2 hours of my life I'll never get back. I'm not sure I'm prepared to waste any more of my time on this.

All I do is just download it and all my hand history will automatically be saved and viewable with the upgrade or do I lose everything. Havent tried yet so no problem so far, just wanted to make sure that my data base is safe and if it wasnt then what would I have to do?

You just install it on top of your existing version. All your hands will still be there (although its never a bad idea to make regular back-ups)

I updated the cache over night for one of my databases with about 900K hands, it took 4 hours, that usually takes me about 45 min.
During this update my PC froze every couple of minutes or so, to the extent that when writing on the keyboard 30 seconds of text was buffered.

When I choose that particular database (after updating the cache), I go an error message when choosing the Summary tab (see picture above), however when choosing another database that took the same amount of increased time to houskeep, I don't get a error message. I should say that I'm not sure I choose Summary for these databases with beta 24.

Also, just getting the Summary for a 900K hand database now takes "much longer" (2-3 times, estimating) than before, doesn't matter what database a choose (with or without error message). Should say I haven't timed this before and after.

This is what all my processes looked like after I updated the cache over night (the update that took 4 hours).
Not sure if this is of any interest. As I wrote before, I'm pretty sure it isn't swapping.

I guess I will get the advice to export everything and reinstall postgres, that's about 12-18 hours of work (if everything runs smoth).
It took 10 hours to install and housekeep all my databases after installing beta 24.
Think I will order that Velocity Raptor disk after all.

Edit:
I'm pretty sure "everything" started to get slow after installing beta 24 and then got really slow after installing the latest build.

After the new update I cant import my hands from Ongame. Is this only happening to me?
I dont get any error message or stuff like that. It just doesnt find the hands.
It worked just 5 min before I downloaded this version.

Legalizeit:

Please enable logging (Configure --> Options --> Logging Enabled and restart PT3) and bring that report up, then attach the C:\Program Files\PokerTracker 3\PokerTracker.log file to a support ticket and we'll look into what could be causing this for you. My initial guess would be a custom stat that is causing problems after it was cached or database corruption, but I couldn't be certain until I saw the complete error message.

Magne:

It should still be working fine. On the Auto-Import tab, click OnGame on the left, then on OnGame Configuration on the right and click "Clear Databases Now" -- this will empty out the OnGame Hand History database and fixes a lot of problems for OnGame users, so give that a try first.

I too am suffering some sort of major performance problem after upgrading.

The upgrade appeared to go fine - but when I select the "Texas Holdem" tab and "tournaments"/tournaments" the control that should list players says "loading" for about 30 secs; then gets stuck "populating", with pokertracker.exe and prtgres.exe using most of my CPU. Ahh - after about 10 mins the control has finally loaded - now the other controls are starting to load - complete now, after about 11mins in total.

This is much slower than before - but perhaps that's due to some players not showing in the previous version (271,636 players in total - I like big tournies!)? [it used to take 30secs max previously].

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Mark

Mark,

Big tournaments are known to make that list take longer to load, and if you played in the world record tournament on PokerStars it added a lot of players to your database.

We do plan on implementing Purge Players Without Hands for tournaments as well but it's a bit more complicated. If you're willing to do a little bit of work, though, someone did put together manual queries to clear out players from tournaments that have no hands in this thread.

Thanks Kraada,

I'll give that manual query a try. FYI it's not just the "record tourney" but Stars "Sunday 200K" regularly has over 25K players each week.

Regards,

Mark
