Step by Step reinstall of Pokertracker Guide

Postby caligro » Mon Mar 10, 2008 6:55 pm

I tried finding on the old forum and this one how to re-install pokertracker 2 after you've been using Postgresql for awhile but I couldn't find any info specific to a step by step guide.

So here's where I'm stuck.

I backed up my postgresql db.
I uninstalled pokertracker (due to some issues that I attributed to some possible corruption)
I downloaded and reinstalled pokertracker and the 2.17.01g patch.
I went into pokertracker and I set the postgresql settings with my old username and password.
I restored my most recent postgresql database.

I'm stuck on trying to get pokertracker to recognize my sql database. So far it still shows only a new "my first poker tracker database" in access format.

So I assume I need to convert this access database to SQL. So I tried that, and for the name, I entered the name of my sql database, and I get an error that tells me that an sql database with that name already exists...

What should I do next?

Also, once the conversion/restoration is complete do I need to do the following or will they be done when the database is recognized?
1. Re load the autorate rules I was using.
2. Set up any db filters
3. Any other preference type things I need to do?

Thanks!

If you restored the databases from the .backup files then you need to tell PT about these database. See the bottom of this FAQ post for how to do that
viewtopic.php?f=30&t=1369

The auto-rate rules are in the database.

The custom filters you created are stored in text files on your computer. If you completely uninstalled PT and got rid of the old PT folder before reinstalling then those files are gone.

Thanks for the quick reply Pat. That worked and I have my database back.

Unfortunately, the initial problem I had, the one that I did the re-install to solve for is still there...

Today, I started receiving an error when clicking the Auto Import button for Full Tilt. The error tells me there is no database associated with observed hands and I need to go to the observed hands tab and hit the "...." icon and select the appropriate database. Up until today, this worked like a charm.

So I go to that tab, and it is completely grey with no writing whatsoever. This is the same problem I had earlier and I thought the program had gotten corrupted so I did the reinstall. There is no "...." button to click or anything.

Can you help me figure this out?

Thanks!

Open PT, go to the File > Maintain Database Names window. In the last field it will tell you the real PostgreSQL db name associated with this database. Make a note of that.

Close PT.

Go to the Start > Programs > PostgreSQL 8.2 > pgAdmin III option.
On the window that opens, right-click on the red X at the top left of the window and select connect from the popup menu.
Enter you p/w when prompted.

You should see a list of databases now. Click on yours. Then under the Tools menu select Query Tool. Copy/paste the following SQL...

delete FROM prefs WHERE pref_key = 'AITMP' ;

Then hit the F5 key to run the statement.

It should say 1 record was deleted.

Now try PT again and see if you can see anything on the Observed Hands tab of that auto-import window.

That did the trick, thanks Pat!

Can you tell me what the cause might have been?

I've been having a lot of crashes in the past week. Some of them Full Tilt brought on with their connection issues. Others where the database will stop talking to Pokertracker and GT+ and an error will come up after I've been playing awhile. It tells me it can't connect to the database. This has caused GT+ to crash, FT to crash, and Pokertracker to crash at different times.

I'm wondering if these crashes somehow corrupted something and thats' why I had to do this step?
I'm just asking so I know for future reference how to avoid this from occurring again.

Also, by the way. My autorate rules were stored, but the icon descriptions that went with the rules were different, so I did have to rename my icons. I guess this is due to the .txt files being erased as you mentioned in the earlier post?

Thanks again, nice product!

I'm not sure what would be causing you to lose connection to the PostgreSQL database like that.

It's possible one of the crashes caused this problem.

Do you reboot your PC regularly? You don't leave it on for long periods of time do you? If so, a regular reboot (restart) might help clean up any memory or other problems.
