Sufficient privileges to start system-HELP!

Postby PlanetFairy » Sat Mar 28, 2009 8:55 pm

I have had a look through other posts and i cant seem to find the right solution to this error during install:

Error: Service 'PostgreSQL Database Server 8.3' (pgsql-8.3) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.

I am on XP as 'administrator' and have recently removed all files/programmes etc.. for PT2 and PostgreSQL.
And I have installed the, 3.00 beta 26 version for the free trail.
Any ideas on how to sort this would be greatly appreciated.

Are you in a domain on your computer?

Did you FULLY uninstall postgres?
Have a look at this guide: How to reinstall Postgres.

Hi WhiteRider TY for the reply...... now I am not the most computer literate person but....
In relation tot the domain thing.... when logging on to my laptop i have one option to log in ..as me - password protected - I have checked under 'user accounts' and there is only the option for me (administrator) or Guest!?!

I checked that everything PT2 or PostgreSQL was removed from both c:/programfiles....... and add/remove programs list before i installed anything, this is still the case, altho i now have PT3 installed.

When attempting to access the 'how to reinstall postgre' link i get a 'bad encryptiton' error.

I have attempted to install it under my current PC conditions, which is Windows Firewall on and 2x AVs (AVG Free Edition and PC Tools AV) on. And again with the same conditions but AVG disabled, could these programms be causing the error?

Look I think I just gonna sack it off seems strange that after running PT2 for years with no problems that i have major issues with PT3.... Will i have the same issues when if/when i pay for the full non-trail version???? unfortunatly i think so...... I will find it very difficult to pay for something which is so hard to install and when the support for any problems is hours away.

I dont have a complicated set-up and no-one else uses this computer and apparently i dont have sufficient privileges to start this service!!! Should PostgreSQL be creating as much problems for PT3 uses as it clearly is?

Anyway I can get my PT2 back (wish i hadn't deleted it....)?
Anyone know if a system restore would work to get back PT2?????

Please schedule a remote assistance session where someone can logon to your computer with you and directly troubleshoot/resolve the issue.

Most of these issues turn out to be fireall/anti-virus misconfigurations and are resolved by fixing that and then reinstalling PostgreSQL. If you're having problems reading the PDF, FoxIt Reader is free and known to work.
