Connecting to the same database from 2 computers

Postby AKRichard » Sun Apr 26, 2009 7:30 am

Hello all,

I play poker from 2 different computers one a vista box the other is my DC running windows server 2003. I installed poker tracker on the vista box with no problem, then I installed poker tracker on the 2003 box but when I tried to install postgresql it keeps telling me that it couldnt map the user accounts (though it did create the account). I would rather have them both access the same database anyways, but no matter what I try, it says it cannot connect to the database, Ive used both passwords that were used during the install, Ive turned off my firewalls, opened port 5432 through my router, and tried every way there is to put the computer name in the server box (just the computer name, computer name with the domain name, with and without the double slashes) and it allways tells me that it cannot connect. Also, I know this is the wrong spot for this post, but on my vista box the hud does not display at the table (for absolute poker).

Thanks in advance

Richard

Ok I thought I had looked the site over fairly well before I posted, but found an answer after I submitted it. Anyways, I followed the answer I had founf in the faq, but it is still telling me it cannot connect. Since the insrtructions were straight forward I am confident I configured everything as specified, however I was not sure if listen_addresses = '*' (the symbol at the end) was an asterik surrounded by single quotation marks or not (it doesnt quite look like an sterik, so I copied and pasted it into the config file). The only other question I had about it was the instructions said to connect use ipaddress:port:password I.E. 192.168.69.59:5432:dbpass what I wanted to know is all that information goes into its own box (the password in the pw box, the port in the port box, the ip address in the ipaddress box) not all in the same box, correct? and also it said something about requiring a router to work (which I have) but it didnt mention any configuration for the router or why it was needed.

Thanks again,

Richard
