Databases on different harddisks?

i am not sure if that works for what I like to do.

Now I am saving all my databases on an external USB HD.
But sometimes I dont have this HD with me so I cant use postgre.
Because of that I like to have another Database directly on my Laptop.
If that will also work I will try to understand your posted link again

To work like that the easiest thing will be to copy the hand histories between computers and import them into a separate database on each computer.
If you want to start with a copy of your existing database you can back it up and restore it onto your other computer - see the Database / Postgres FAQ.

The problem is the size of my database more than 100GB thats why I use an extern USB HDD.
Also a backup oder exporting hand files will take several days.

My concern was to have a smaller Database which I use for hands I played on my own on my laptop and the rest of my databases including the mining hands an my extern USB HDD.
That would be best.

You can also use selective export to just export your played hands if you wanted to move those onto your laptop (see the Tutorial: Selective Export for details).

I dont use 2 different computers just 2 different HDs.

So your advice is to install postgre for a second time and export the hands I need on both?

sry for my bad english.
I only have a laptop no other computer.
But my postgre installation is on an external usb drive.
So my lone Laptop can't use postgre without this usb drive so my concern was to use postgre without this usb drive.

I think I have to do another installion of postgre on my laptop.

PostgreSQL can only read from one database location at a time. In order to switch you would need to change the data_directory section of the postgresql.conf -- Start --> Programs --> PostgreSQL --> Edit postgresql.conf, then restart the PostgreSQL server.
