I was considering trying to reinstall PT, but I don't want to do something that I haven't been asked to by those working my support ticket, so I don't screw it up. I also don't know much about the software and its relationship to Postgres, and don't want to make things worse or lose/corrupt my database... :(

Playing in a tourney in <1hr and wish I would have PT to help :(

Reinstalling PT3's Upgrade version won't touch PostgreSQL at all; we will look into the Vista SP2 problem but if we cannot replicate it ourselves it is extremely difficult for us to figure out what needs to be done to fix it.

Do you recommend trying to re-install? I downloaded 'PT-Install-v3.00.4.pgsql.exe' originally. Can I use the same installer, even though its bundled with PostGres, or do I redownload?

Thanks,
Joe

If PostgreSQL installed successfully you can just use the upgrade installer. You should try Beta 27 as well, as it's significantly newer that Build 4 and has quite a few bug fixes.

Reinstalling (upgrade over the existing) didn't make any difference (the same problem). And no, it's not right for support ask us to "play" with our production machine, what they need to so is to use their own vista machine, apply SP2 to simulate the problem and figure out the way to fix it. I can only assume PT3 code has to be modified to make it compatible, but that's even besides the point. As I said you have new customers getting frustatrated about now as well as players relaying on PT3 on their daily games and apparently you don't care enough. I don't care about random posts suggesting trying this and this or asking if we changed anything again and again (we told you we didn't many times already) - I'm still waiting for some real action to get this fixed. It should be obvious by now that programmers have to be involved. I've stayed loyal to PT over years, but things like this pisses me off to be honest.

I uninstalled PT3, and installed the Beta. No changes. Still crashes at launch, without creating any type of log... I checked to make sure logging was still enabled and it is. I also made sure I was running it as Administrator...

I know I'm not giving you much to work with, but I've tried everything I can think of to help you help me...

What specific versions of Vista are you all using? 32 or 64 bit? Home/premium/etc?

I have asked one of the other support guys who has a native 64-bit vista machine to try SP2, and have notified the development team of this thread.

I'm running Vista Home Premium 32bit. I just rolled back SP2 as a temporary fix because 2 days w/o PT is too much. I have all current and available updates (less SP2 now, of course).

I'm successfully running Beta 27 of PT on SP1 Vista Home Premium. (So I am sure that this wasn't caused by any Postgres errors) I'll keep checking this thread and my support ticket regularly so I know when I can reinstall SP2.

Thanks,
Joe

Our support tech who has vista has now installed SP2 and PT3 still works for him too.
That's 64-bit vista.

If anyone else has this problem please give us as much information about your systems as possible so we can see if there are any common circumstances for those with problems.

j2sa, if you google around I think you'll find that SP2 can mess up your usb, your wifi, your drivers and numerous other things. So although you say its down to the programmers to release a patch/upgrade for PT, it seems as though you should be aiming your anger at Microsoft for fecking up yet again.
