Same problem. Installed SP2 on Vista Home Premium machine and PT3 would not even open. Installed 27.1 over 27 and did not resolve the problem. I did a system restore to the installation of SP2 and now PT3 works.

Edit: 32 bit, btw. Also, installed an update to Comodo Firewall at same time.

"j2sa, if you google around I think you'll find that SP2 can mess up your usb, your wifi, your drivers and numerous other things. So although you say its down to the programmers to release a patch/upgrade for PT, it seems as though you should be aiming your anger at Microsoft for fecking up yet again."

#1, since PT3 is working before SP2 and not after, in a way you are right; #2, however, I run vista on 3 PCs with hundreds of software and everything works just fine after SP2, except PT3; #3, as for Microsoft, they do pretty decent job lately, so if there are any bugs with SP2 I'm sure they would fix it, although I'm pretty confident it has been fixed during their beta testing stage; as we can see with windows 7, Microsoft takes their development process very seriously lately; #4, the very fact that SP2 broke PT3 means there is some compatibility issues in PT3 code to start with, as simple as that; same applies to all 3rd party drivers or whatever else is not working for you; since vista w SP2 officially is the latest OS, I expect PT3 to be compatible with it, hope it is more than reasonable

Most importantly: does anybody know why PTO is still working while PT2/PT3 not after SP2? This alone should be a big clue if nothing else.

I have the same issue with PT 3 Build 4 after installing SP2 (despite SP2 being an optional update - windows autoupdate simply loads and installs it... so much for options). It worked perfectly prior to the update.

My system runs Vista Business (UAC still deactivated, running PT3 as admin)

This is the error output details (I translated it from german, so it might not be 100% accurate)

problem: APPCRASH

thanks Tech support for any help with this issue!

nebjam:

Is this a 32 bit or 64 bit machine?

Add me to the people having problems after Vista SP2 install (32bit)...what also sucks is that my system restore isn't letting me go back before SP2...for what it's worth my PT2 isn't working either

ive not installed it myself, but isnt SP2 the first service pack that you can uninstall and therefore you dont have to do a restore?

What version of Vista do you have? (Home Premium, etc)

I am running the 32bit version. Does it work with the 64bit Version? Would you recommend an upgrade (Pt-wise)?

Thanks nebjam - we're just trying to establish if there are any common links between the people who are having this problem.

PT3 does work on 64-bit Vista, and one of the other support guys has installed SP2 on his 64-bit system and it still works.
Mind you, I've installed SP2 on Vista Home Premium in my virtual machine and that works too, and that is the version most people have reported problems with so far.
I wonder if they released another version between the first reports and when I downloaded it - which would have been May 28. (I doubt it, I think I saw somewhere that the current version was released May 26?)
When did you all download it?

In my opinion it has to do with your licensing checks. It seems Windows is returning other values now (or something like this).

So PT does not recognize the Registration key as valid any more. I tried to enter again, but it tells me the code is wrong.
