The problem here is that PT3 can only connect to one instance of PostgreSQL at a time. What you need to do is backup your PT2 database from 8.2 and restore it in 8.3, then PT3, connecting to your 8.3 database will be able to read it.

First get your PostgreSQL 8.2 running: edit the postgresql.conf file for the 8.2 database and set the port to 5433. Save the file and you should be able to start up PostgreSQL 8.2 now.

There's a detailed walkthrough on how to backup and restore databases via pgadmin3 available here, just make sure you're connected to and backing up the database from PostgreSQL 8.2.

Once you've backed up the PT2 database, restore it into PostgreSQL 8.3 (same directions, just reconnect to the 8.3 database instead which is still on port 5432).

Once the database is restored PT3 will be able to find it in the Database --> Convert --> PokerTracker 2 Database window.

sorry-
this doesn't work. I don't want to be a jerk, but I'm really pissed.

8.2. will NOT start. Now wtf do I do other than wait around and hope you see this i the next half hour?

p.s. even if this gets fixed, will i be able to use that db in PT3? The trial limits you to one db? how do I get around that? delete the db with the hands I imported so that the restore is the only db out there and then re-import th e new hands I recorded lat night?

one more thing. much as I need PT2 to be working so I can use it if Im not happy with PT3 (or until I can get the HUD setup the way I want too - I can't read the dang default setting graphics...) I do have a a PT2 backup from a few days ago.

So, I skipped the step of creating a new backup and went right to the restore step. This seems to be running as my HDD is making noises and my CPU usage is through the roof. However, I'm not seeing any messages in te h*Messages* portion of the restore window, unlike in the picture shown in the restore window of the tutorial. Does that mean it's working or not?

And if it is working, how long does it take to run - I have no idea as I'm not getting any status messages at all! (It was 500mb backup file) I'm on a p4 hyperthreading processor at 3ghz with 3GB of Ram and I'm writing to a fresh HDD. So far th eonly message is still the initial restore command and it is 30 minutes in.

Leave the restore running for a while - it's got a lot of work to do.
If you can't work out how to follow kraada's directions please schedule a remote assistance session where someone can logon to your computer with you and directly troubleshoot/resolve the issue.

OK the restore finished, however, how do you get PT3 to read it now since PT3 is limiting me to only 1 db?

The restore is of your PT2 database, as per kraada's directions, yes?
You can't use this directly in PT3, you need to convert it to PT3.
Database > Convert > Convert PokerTracker 2 Database
(Note: this doesn't actually convert the database, it just imports the data to your existing PT3 database - your PT2 database will remain intact.)
