Update PostgreSQL Password

Postby TheGoat666 » Tue Jun 02, 2009 1:30 pm

Hello, Been using PT and PT3 for long time now with no issues.. love PT3,

I'm trying to update PostgreSQL8.2 to 8.3. I have followed the steps outlined in the FAQ for backup and have searched the posts for my password problem.

I'm sure it's a dummy on my part but I can't seem to install 8.3

#1)

During the install I'm prompted:

"please provide a password for the database superuser and service account (postgres). If the service account already exists in Windows, you must enter the current password for the account. If the account does not exist, it will be created when you click 'next'."

My pass for the databases doesn't seem to work, nor does clicking 'next'. Any help???

#2)

Also, my DB has been growing steadily for some time (9monts or more) and I play mostly cash on Stars. I do play tournies however not to the extent of my cash games and I find that the when I click on the tourney tab it takes a a few minutes or more to load... seems very very slow..

I do my housekeeping often and defrag and all that..

7200rpm drive, WinXP Pro SP3, P4D 3.2 (no laughing plz.).

I'm upgrading PostgreSQL in hopes it will speed things up, but loading the tournies takes way too long IMO... anything I can do?

Thx in advance.

Follow this FAQ to clear the password associated with your PostgreSQL user, if the problem is the windows password if you click Start --> Run and type 'cmd' then hit enter and at the command prompt type:
net user postgres /delete

and hit enter then the installer will create a new user with the password you specify.

Upgrading PostgreSQL will help a bit (10-15% performance gain iirc). What version of PT3 are you using?

Thx for the link.. I'm a simple kinda guy when it comes to these types of things.

I just DL Beta 27.2 and am in the process of doing the housekeeping ... 31mins and counting..

10-15% would be a great improvement :D

I did both steps and I'm still getting prompted to enter a password.

net user /delete said it was successful

Is it safe for me to uninstall both pt3 and postgres8.2, re-install complete w/ postgres, then import my backup db?

edit: i just decided to try my 'dbpass' and it worked this time.... i'll update if i need more guidance.

Ok, everything installed properly, I disabled postgres8.2 and have 8.3 running.

PT3 doesn't recognize 8.3. I'm not sure how to make it connect or at least acknowledge that it's running.

Am I missing something?

Edit: .. ok i'm sorry for all this.. i noticed that I loaded 8.3 on a different port.. i can' t seem to manually change the port..

If you edit the C:\Program Files\PokerTracker 3\Data\Config\PokerTracker.cfg file you can blank the [Databases] section and then it will prompt you for connection details when you start up; just specify the other port. PT3 can't connect to two instances of PostgreSQL at once.

Alternately if you edit the postgresql.conf file while PostgreSQL is shut down you can force Postgres to use 5432. There's no problem with using 5433 though.

I reloaded my backup DB and everything loaded properly and is working great.

I notice with the tourney tab, loading is much faster than it was.. from 3-4min down to about 20-30secs.. I'd say we did better than 10-15% :)

Peace

:)

Also if you upgraded to Beta 27.2 there are fixes to make the tournament tab faster than Build 4 . . .
