postgre over internet

Postby mikew » Fri Jun 12, 2009 8:29 pm

i've followed the postgres network db faq. in pg_hba.conf, i've added this line to allow any connection to my db from the internet:

Code: Select all
host    all         all         0.0.0.0/0             md5

i've enabled port forwarding on the router and the connection works on a remote PT3.

my question:

it seems to go REALLY slow over the internet to load up the stats. that is, on initial pt3 startup, it takes almost 5 minutes for all the stats to load into the grids. once its done though, i can check other players stats and it seems to be fairly prompt. is there anything i can do to speed up the initial transfer?

Not that I'm aware of, I'm afraid.

does the entire database of hands get transferred on the initial pt3 startup? and thats why its fairly quick to check stats of other players and stuff once its all loaded?

I don't know for sure, but I suspect some information is cached locally by postgres, yes.
