Just reinstalled Windows

Postby Hicham » Mon Jun 08, 2009 5:07 pm

My PC crashed and after battling Blue Screens of Death for a couple of nights, I reinstalled Windows tonight.

One of the first things I reinstalled was PT3, but now I wonder what I should do the get my old database in the new install? I have had this happen before and was a bit prepared. I previously installed PostgreSQL on a different drive, together with the database (or so I hope at least). But I guess I have to reinstall that too. When I reinstall PostgreSQL will it find my old stuff by itself? Can I install over the old install?

I hope this is not too complicated. After days of bad memory, missing dll's, failed installation of drivers and other random annoyances, I would like this to be smooth as a baby

Thanks

Reinstall PostgreSQL on the other drive and PostgreSQL should detect the data folder and allow you to connect to it automatically; just don't check "initialize database cluster" during the install process.

So I can just reinstall PostGresq over the old installation? Or do I have to rename that one?

Quick Question: When you add hand histories does it add these chronologically to your graph? Does PT3 recalculate the whole graph or doesit put the added hands at the back?

Yes you can just reinstall, no you don't need to rename anything. The data in the database isn't "sequential" the database is simply the database. Each time you go to look at the graph, it is recalculated.

When I try to reinstall over it, PT3 tells me that I have to remove the previous install of PostgreSQL. Will this not result in me losing my old HH?

Just install the Upgrade version, not the Full version. It shouldn't lose your hands either way but the former is a lot simpler.

PostgreSQL isn't installed and running. Check to make sure your firewall isn't blocking PostgreSQL, as PT3 should attempt to start it on its own.
