What can PT3 *not* yet do that PT2 and PAHUD can do?

Postby StdDeviant » Thu Dec 04, 2008 7:23 pm

I've given up searching and browsing for an answer. I'm having way too much trouble finding what I'm looking for. So I get an "F" in searching. Sorry.

I've been using PT2 for 3+ years, and PAHUD for most of that time. I'm waiting to move to PT3 until it's an improvement., but I'm having trouble finding information to know if it's there yet.

I have a friend who's been using PT3 and when I told him about the new patch to correct the date format problem introduced yesterday by Stars in their tourney summaries, he said he didn't think PT3 could even import tourney summaries yet!

That blew my mind. I was sure he must be mistaken. PT3 isn't beta, right? It's your commercial release that you charge money for. So I figured that must be misinformation, as you certainly wouldn't release a product that couldn't even do something as fundamental as importing tourney summaries from the biggest online poker site.

So my question is simply this. Where can I find a list of things that PT3 cannot yet do that PT2 (together with PAHUD) can do. If my friend is right about not being able to import tourney summaries, that would certainly be a show stopper! (Still can't believe that one though.) But even if PT3 can do that, maybe there's something else important to me that it can't yet? I am concerned that I see tournament support on a list of planned improvements, and since I'm primarily a tourney player, I'd sure like to know more detail about what these and other issues are.

So, please direct me to where I can find a good description of current issues and plans for PT3.

Thanks.

PT3 can certainly import tournament histories, and has been able to do so for a long time now.

The largest thing that PT3 is missing is the number of sites supported. Currently, PT3 only supports PokerStars, Party, Full Tilt, Everest, iPoker, OnGame and Boss Media. We are hoping to add two or three more sites by the end of the year.

There are a few smaller features that are missing, like database backup/restore, selective exports and exchange rates, but we hope to have these features implemented shortly.

PT3 offers a lot that PT2 does not, such as customizable stats and reports, a more configurable Hud, and a smooth, multithreaded interface, so you can navigate the interface without it pausing.

Correct me if I'm wrong, while PT3 can certainly import tourney histories, it cannot auto import from stars as pt2 does. There is a pretty easy way to loophole this though by importing the tournament histories into PT2 as usual while putting processed tournament summaries and processed hand histories from the tournaments into the same folder. Then you can have PT3 import from that folder and it will automatically gather all the information.

Import via e-mail is available in Beta 21; you can find the configuration options via the blue link on the Manual Import tab.

Only thing is that it's not working
A few users are having issues with the PT3 email import.

Due to the Thanksgiving Holiday in the United States, our development team is not working. We are hoping to have a fix available sometime early next week (week of November 30 - December 6). At this time, no further log files need to be submitted via the support system as we should have enough to troubleshoot the issue and get the problem resolved. Thanks!

Best regards,

Derek

It's fixed for the next release which, if it doesn't come out today, will be coming out tomorrow.

Josh, thanks for the reply.

Of the things you listed, database backup/restore certainly sent up red flares! Is there an alternative method of backing up and restoring?

Obviously, not being able to backup and restore the database should be a show stopper for anyone; it certainly is for me.

Not only is it necessary to frequently backup and be able to restore the database in the event of problems, but how would I convert from PT2 to PT3 without this ability? Is there a conversion routine provided with PT3?

Since I posted my question, I stumbled across another post that said one could copy the text from Stars tourney summary e-mails into a text file and import the file. Is that the method currently being used, or was that an old post? I'm not clear if the above discussion is dealing with this same issue or not.

Thanks.

You can export your db to a folder -- I do this weekly and store a copy on my flash drive just in case. When I have done a full install (just got a new pc recently) it took about 3 hours to import 1million hands and do the initial cluster/cache update etc (probably would have taken 8 hours on my old pentium 4).

So a backup is possible, it just not the same as the method used in Pt2.

PS -- you can convert a PT2 database into a pt3: http://www.pokertracker.com/products/PT ... man#DMan.6

It was the method used for pre beta 21. In beta 21, you can import via email. Apparently some people are having trouble with it, but it works flawlessly for me. On my PT3 wish list is a feature that will automatically request missing tournament summaries from stars -- but for now as long as you stay on top of your tournaments (request your last 200 as frequently as needed) you wont have any gaps.

OK, I am still confused about something pretty essential.

When I go to www.pokertracker.com it shows me all about PT3. If I didn't know about PT2, I probably wouldn't start prowling around the site to find out about it. I'd just be led to believe that PT3 *is* PokerTracker, and PokerTracker *is* PT3.

But now I'm reading about beta 20, beta 21, build 3...

Is PT3 a production product yet or is it still in beta testing?

Beta testing can be fun...I guess...at least until you've done it a few times. Personally, I want a product that's stable and well tested, particularly where my livelihood is concerned. I'm glad *someone* wants to beta test. It just doesn't light my fire anymore.

So I'm still unclear on all this. Is PT3 still considered to be in beta testing?

Thanks.
