pokertracker not opening

Postby golong » Thu Dec 18, 2008 4:35 pm

I recently downloaded pokertracker. Initially i had no problems however recently when i try to open pokertracker it often does not open. Nothing appears on the screen. If i click on it again then a message comes up saying "a version of pokertracker is already running" but i cant access it. If i shut my computer down and start again then usually I can get into pokertracker after 3 or 4 goes.

Does anyone know what the problem might be. I would stress that for about 3 weeks i had no problems at all.

Thanks

Do you have PostgreSQL running on your machine? Check by pressing ctrl+alt+del, clicking Task manager and click on the Processes tab. You should have 6 copies of postgres running. If you don't, you can try starting it manually by clicking Start --> Programs --> PostgreSQL --> Start Services. If that doesn't start the service up, please zip up and attach the 3 most recent files in C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.3\Data\pg_log to a support ticket and we'll look into what could be causing this for you.

I had a similar problem but sadly did not read this thread before making things worse. Basically I have been able to get PT3 to work by uninstalling/reinstalling. The failure to open problem kept coming up more frequently and I tried uninstalling both Poker Tracker and postgresql. I have not been able to get it to work at all after this.

Poker Tracker appears to reinstall OK but postgresql does not. I have been trying to reinstall from version 3.0 beta 23.

You will need to follow the FULL uninstall instructions: Total uninstall/reinstall of PT3 & Postgres

I have been getting this same problem for a least 5 days now. It takes 5 or 6 times to have PT3 become visible (you can see it on Task Manager - Processes along with 6 Postgresql.exe - seen when selecting 'see all users'). By the time PT3 does become operational, I am no longer in the best mood for playing so I shut the program down.

I have tried running PT3 as administrator, as Windows XP, as well as assigning a higher priority through task Manager... to no avail.

I have already submitted a PT3 log for my last failed attempt to using PT3.

I thought this was a Windows Vista problem. I am now using Mozilla Firefox since Microsoft announced their big security leak.

Here is hoping for a quick mix.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS ALL!

I've been having this exact same problem. I've sent PT3 support the log files they asked for, but I was wondering if any users have figured out what the problem is?

I'm guessing it's related to a recent Vista update...but not very many people seem to be affected, so who knows.

When I open PT3, in Task Manager -> Processes, there are two instances of pokerTracker.exe running. That's abnormal isn't it??

I have been having this issue as well. Sometimes I reboot but to no avail. I've gone in and opened Start Services from PostgreSQL but that doesn't always fix it. Is there going to be some sort of patch for this issue? Seems like there are enough off us struggling here in Vista to warrant some attention.

I know this has been happening quite a bit more and the developers are aware of the issue.

We have heard of one other workaround: try stopping PostgreSQL before starting PT3 (via Start --> Programs --> PostgreSQL --> Stop Services), and then start up PT3 and for some people that's had it starting up properly the first time.
