Database to big

Postby harmonica » Thu Jan 29, 2009 9:44 am

Hi

I recently wondered why I had hardly any space on my hard drive, then I looked under program files and my PT2 file was 54.5 GB I also looked at where presumably my HH's get stored and this is about 4.4 GB. I have got databases as far back 18 months, is it possible to get these files sizes down whilst keeping all my hands played?.

Thanks

There isn't a way to reduce the size without deleting some hands from the database. If you don't need the hands going back that far you can use the Advanced Purge button on the Utilities > Database Maintenance and Options window to delete hands by date. Also, having the PT2 folder this large doesn't seem right. The default Access databases that PT uses have a 2gb file size limit so you'd have to have a lot of databases. What are the file sizes and file names of the database files you see in the PT2 folder?

If you want to delete all those "_backup" and "_repair" files you can, those are backups made by PT when you do a compact or repair within PT2. If you do this, I would suggest you take the time now to backup the regular database files, either to a CD/DVD or some external drive as you will no longer have these backup files to revert to if there are problems later.

Yeah, I guess so. You must have renamed those because PT wouldn't have created that file name.
Open the File > Maintain Database Names window first and look at the file names in the last field of each entry there and make sure that none of the files you delete are linked to any entries on this window.
