Poker Stars Export Problem

Postby manderson_co » Mon Mar 17, 2008 12:57 pm

When I go to export my notes from Poker Tracker into Poker Stars, it tells me my Poker Stars player notes no longer exists. When I go to manually search for this file, Poker Tracker doesn't see the file. I can see the file when I go to it from outside Poker Tracker so it clearly exists. This problem first started after I compacted the databases.

The latest patch did not solve the problem. I do have Windows Vista, but have followed the instructions given on the website from the beginning with regards to running as an administrator every time.

Any ideas for fixing this problem?

Thanks

It sounds like you aren't running it as administrator. Does Vista prompt you to cancel/allow PT to run when you start it? It should be.

What about PokerStars, you should be running that as admin too.

Yes Vista prompts me to cancel/allow PT to run when I start it.

I was not aware that I should be running Poker Stars as an administrator. I have changed that setting but it did not solve my problem with exporting.

However I noticed in Poker Tracker properties, there was another place to check "run this program as an administrator" in the compatibility tab. I simultanously had the "run at administrator" button unchecked in the compatibility tab but checked in the shortcut tab under advanced (as the website says). The website made no mention of the run as administrator option in the compatibility tab so was what I had done correct?

Thank you for your help.

Use Windows Explorer to go to the c:\program files\pokerstars folder. Can you find the Notes.txt file using Explorer?

Yes, I can find the Notes.txt file using Windows Explorer. I am unable to see that file when I go into my Pokerstars folder from Poker Tracker.

The only way that I would know that you wouldn't see that file running through PT is because you weren't running PT as administrator.

If you right-click on the PT desktop icon and select 'run as administrator' from the popup menu, Vista should prompt you to cancel/allow PT to run. Are you able to find the file now opening PT this way?

I opened it using that technique (and it prompted me to cancel/allow PT to run as you said). And I could still not find the file from PT.

I don't know if this matters but the export had worked fine about 6 times or so and stopped working as soon as I compacted the databases.

Should I uninstall and reinstall the program? Or do you have any other ideas?

Thank you for your time. I really appreciate it.

Try this first.

Using Windows Explorer, go to the c:\program files\pokerstars folder. Make a copy of Notes.txt. Click the Compatibility Files link/button at the top of the Explorer window. Put the copy of the file in this folder and name it just Notes.txt

Now, start PT and see if it finds the file now. If it does, it means PT isn't running as admin for some reason, that's the only time you should be able to see the Comp Files folder is if it's not running as admin.

I just figured something out.

When I searched for the notes.txt file in PT, I expected see the file while in the Poker Stars folder so I could click on it and could not. But when I manually began entering the file name notes.txt, PT gave me choices to fill in the text. It gave me the choice to fill in the text notes.text.migrated so I chose that. Windows Explorer called the correct file notes.txt but labeled the type as migrated file. I had previously exported to notes.txt so I am not sure why PT saw the file differently, but it now let me export and did so successfully.

It successfully exported to the notes.txt file but when I went into Poker Stars my notes had not updated. It had notes but they were unchanged from the previous time I had exported. Any idea what would cause this?

Thank you very much for all of your help

I don't know what that notes.txt.migrated is but that isn't the one you should have used.

Did you try what I suggested about about putting a copy of the notes.txt file in the comp. files folder? What happened?
