Clustering Time Calculation

Postby MedicDan » Sat Apr 25, 2009 9:32 pm

Hello,

I am switching from another DB app. I just bought PT and installed it on a brand new high end computer. I have a little under 2 million hands. I finished the import and the clustering is now going on 10 hours. Is there a way to calculate how much time it should take? I know PostgreSQL is not the best but this seems a little excessive. Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks in advance,
Dan

That does seem excessive. This new high end computer, how much spare hard drive space does it have?

Thanks for the fast response. There is more than 600 Gigs of free space on the drive. Nothing else is installed on the computer yet as I am still getting it set up. I do not know how long it took as I went to bed at the 16 hr mark. It was finished the next morning.

Should I be concerned about this?

Thanks in advance.

I should also add that I did install the newest Beta. Could that have been the problem?

No, the newest Beta has many fixes and improvements over Build 4 so won't cause any problems with clustering.
That does sound a little long, but it shouldn't be a cause for concern. Did you have much else running on your computer at the time?

No, it was a new computer. I did bring up task manager to make sure nothing else was running. I also checked the resource monitor and only 1.7gb of memory was in use. The HD was not taxed and everything seemed to be running well. I am out of town right now, I will check it out when I get home. I assume all is well now. When I have a day that I am not using that system, I will run maintenance again and see how long it takes.

Thanks again.
