Windows 7, Postgres?

Postby Danstah » Sun Nov 01, 2009 9:17 am

Hello,

I've been using PT3 a long time, and have done a few formats, with export and imports of databases. Anyways, after I installed Windows 7 onto my cpu, I've had some problems with PT3.

Literally, it seems like there is some kind of error with the PostgreSQL server, or similar - because I can import the hands fine, from the manual import - but when they are done loading, and the vacuum is done - there is all sorts of errors, a very long list. And afterwards when I press "Texas Hold'em" there is no Players or any stats to look at it, instead there is some red text "Unable to execute query: SELECT player.id_playerxxxxx bla bl abla..."

I've tried working a little on completely uninstall the postgres (the one that comes with pt3, by installing standardish), and gotten a newer postgresql but with no success.

I'm not sure how to get this to work, or if there is any trigger how to get it working with Win7?

Please help,
Thanks!

After installing Windows 7 you will need to re-install postgres. I would suggest making a backup of your databases first, and then restoring after the re-install if you can, rather than relying on the existing postgres\data folder.
How to reinstall Postgres

You can backup your databases with the Backup/Restore options in Database > Database Management in Beta 29.1.

Basically the problem is - I had Windows Vista, and I exported my whole database - then formatted my computer and installed Windows 7, and when I try to manually import the database, an error like this comes up:

"Invalid PostgreSQL connection object", and all sorts of errors.

Basically, I've been through most of the forum, reinstalling postgres a few times completely - and followed the guides, but with no help what so ever.

I produced a log aswell, which I can provide in a ticket?

Are you running PT3 as Administrator after you updated to Windows 7.

I suspect that you don't have postgres fully re-installed, or at least not running.
When do Start > Programs > Postgres > Start Service, do you see postgres.exe processes in Task Manager > Processes?

Did you fully uninstall postgres as the guide directs, before re-installing?

Please attach your log file to a Support ticket along with the last few files from the postgres logs folder:
C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.3\data\pg_log
Also have a look at Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer - do you see any errors related to postgres there?

Yeah, I'm running everything as Admin.. Also, I've fully uninstalled Postgres 8.3.5, installed it again, tried with 8.4.1, or 8.3.8, etc etc.. Nothing seems to work.

Also, I've followed the Uninstall guide, and when I look in task manager it's there as it should be - so yeah I did fully uninstall with "cmd" net user postgres /delete bla bla + delete the folder.

When I look at the log file myself, it looks like it doesnt connect fully to the database, for some strange reason - and then after a few tries, it suddently does?

I'm not totally sure about the Event viewer, as i'm not sure im the right place, but there are like 11 errors on the postgreSQL..

Read our Firewall Guide too, but if you think you have everything set up correctly please attach the errors you see along with your log file to a support ticket so that we can investigate.

I use Kaspersky Internet Security, and if any application wants access, Kaspersky will ask me, if I permit it - so it shouldnt be that either.. I already put in a ticket, so I guess it's just a matter of time. :o)

Kapersky causes problems with postgres - try disabling it altogether (temporarily) and see if that helps.

I just tried disabling it for a while, and importing hands. Same thing going on..

Should I disable it, and uninstall all and install again?
