Need to move DB to external hard drive

Running out of space on my laptop and need to move my database. Can someone lay out the steps for me? Any known problems doing this? Thanks.

What sort of connection are you going to be using? If you're using a USB drive, I feel that I need to warn you: it will cause everything to slow down as the latency on the USB connection will be the bottleneck for you.

It's doable; you'll want to follow this tutorial, just as I said, expect nontrivial performance issues.
