Tuning PostgreSQL Problem

Postby snoopyyo » Wed Jul 07, 2010 10:45 am

Hey,

I always used Windows XP but got a knew faster drive with lots of more RAM and decided to us new Windows 7 as my OS.
I backed up about everything i could. and i downloaded the postgresql v8.3.11 and installed it.
Now i get to the Performance Tuning PostgreSQL.
But i keep getting this error when i try to run it :"The postgresql.conf for the selected server is not accessible. Please try again by running the tuningwizard as an administrator."
I tried but it doesn't work.
On my XP it worked this way.
But i don't know where this file is "postgresql.conf" and wich server.
i just tried to follow this link
http://www.pokertracker.com/forums/view ... 45&t=10393

Any help will be appreciated.
I better wait for installing pokertracker3 itself then.
Hope to hear from you soon

Depending on what version of PostgreSQL you have installed, the postgresql.conf file should be located in C:\Program Files (x86)\PostgreSQL\8.x\data\ - where x is likely either 3 or 4 (ie - the folder is either 8.3 or 8.4). You may need to run Notepad as Administrator in order to edit it (Start --> All Programs --> Accessories, right click Notepad --> Run as Administrator). Once you have Notepad open with elevated permissions you should be able to open and edit the file and then when you restart the server any and all changes will take effect.

You can reinstall PostgreSQL per our guide on our documentation page - reinstalling PT3 won't make any difference. Reinstalling PostgreSQL should get that file back for you.

Hey,

Since i had a brandnew clean computer, i decided to just download and install PT3 3.07.1 Beta. on my Windows 7.
This way, PT3 will install the postgreSQL build in the setup file.
I succesfully restored my database and everything is working fine.
Here is my question:
Is it possible to do the tuning wizzard of the postgreSQL by Launching the Application Stack Builder?
or is it only possible if PT3 is not yet installed on my pc. or should i re-restore my database again afterwards.
I bought a faster 10 000 RPM Drive and upgraded to 7gig RAM to get my database to work smoother and faster.
And i remember that if you do the tuning thingy, it takes maximum advantages of my computer specs.

Or maybe the tuning thingy isn't a big of a difference anymore? I remember that last year i re-did my database and remeber reading all good about it.

thanks for all the help :-)
BTW, i just saw that i am posting under Mrs.fishnet instead of snoopyyo.
My gf was still signed up i guess :-)

You can certainly run the tuning wizard if PT3 and PostgreSQL are already installed - the tuning wizard mostly changes a few settings in the PostgreSQL configuration file - whether PT3 is installed or not doesn't matter.

You should be able to find the Application Stack Builder in the PostgreSQL start menu section.
