Unable to create Postsql database: PT3 DB

Reason : Unable to log in to database (template 1)
Reason : Could not send start up packet, connection reset by peer.

I have recently switched to SimplyMEPIS build of Linux (deb based distro) and while running PT3 through Wine (windows emulater) i get the above message when finalising the install of the Postgresql database.

I previously used PT3 on Vista for over a year.

Do you have PostgreSQL installed in Linux? Is it currently running? You'll be able to tell by checking the output of:
ps auxw | grep -i postgres

No, it is during the install of postgre that I get that message - or rather when it has just finished installing and you click 'create'.

I don't think the PostgreSQL autoinstaller will work properly in Wine and even if it did, you wouldn't want PostgreSQL installed there anyway.

You should install PostgreSQL in Linux - you'll be able to connect to it through Wine without any problems. I don't know if SimplyMepis uses a package manager but if it does, there should be a PostgreSQL package. If not, you can get the tarball from the PostgreSQL website.

Thanks! Didn't thnink of using the PM for postgresql.

Now however I am getting the "FATAL : password authentication failed for 'postgres' "

I have tried changing the password from 'svcpass83' to 'postgrespass' and still getting the same message....

Try following the steps of this tutorial - the pg_hba.conf will likely be in a location like /var/lib/PostgreSQL/8.3/main/ or somewhere in the /etc tree.

The pg_hba.conf file isn't there. I've found the correct folder, but not the file.

Try looking for it via find or locate? The file should be installed somewhere whenever PostgreSQL is installed.

Ok found it (got 'locate') - it was at etc/postgresql/8.3/main.

Changed the md5 lines with trust but have a problem with the following

"Then go Start -> Programs -> PostgreSQL -> Reload Configurations

This will allow you to access the database without any password."

How would I do this?
