PS Manual import: Encountered unexpected tournament summary.

Postby Leewah » Wed Dec 15, 2010 8:35 am

OS X 10.5.8
PT3 3.08.1

A couple days ago I was attempting to clean up my PT3 DB and on the Holdem Tournament Results window, I accidentally did a "Select All" > AutoDetect (unchecked all of the boxes) & clicked "Detect". Not all so bad that I made that mistake.

The big mistake I did was accidentally clicking "Save" without thinking about what I'd just done.

To cut a long story short, I've somehow managed to change every tournament in my DB to a $24+2 NL MTT. CRAP!

Searching high and low through the Internet I managed to somehow retrieve some of the data back into the DB by importing some previous tournament summaries I had recently saved from Pokerstars. This only managed to recover the 45 tournament summaries I had sent to me after I checked the option in the Pokerstars Lobby a little while ago.

I then tried to submit an automated request for my previous 200 tournament summaries from Pokerstars through the lobby however that failed to work as I didn't receive any emails from them even though I was given a confirmation that it had been sent. I then tried a request for 100 tournament histories which I did receive successfully. At the same time, I sent an email to support@pokerstars requesting my entire tournament history records which they did surprisingly quick. The problem though is that it was sent to me as 2 files, 1 for SnGs and 1 for MTTs (both also indicating if it was a satellite or not) and they were formatted as .htm files. I have tried to copy & paste the data into a spreadsheet in an attempt to reformat the data into a readable text file for manual import but that didn't go well as the formatting for a lot of the cells were malformed. I then replied requesting the data be sent to me in .csv in some vague hope that this may better my cause but they replied with "Unfortunately, we can not send you the tournament results in the requested format. We apologize for the inconvenience."

I then decided to attempt a manual import of the 100 tournament summaries which I received though the automated history request tool in the lobby but after selecting the text file containing the summaries, I received the following response from PT3.

2010/12/15 19:15:35: Import file: <snip>/manualImportPS100-20101215.txt
2010/12/15 19:15:35: Encountered unexpected tournament summary. (Line #700)
2010/12/15 19:15:35: Encountered unexpected tournament summary. (Line #3488)
2010/12/15 19:15:35: Encountered unexpected tournament summary. (Line #3507)
2010/12/15 19:15:35: Encountered unexpected tournament summary. (Line #4478)
2010/12/15 19:15:35: Encountered unexpected tournament summary. (Line #7060)
2010/12/15 19:15:35: Encountered unexpected tournament summary. (Line #9407)
2010/12/15 19:15:35: Encountered unexpected tournament summary. (Line #10945)
...<Same error message but different Line # for all results>
2010/12/15 19:15:39: + Complete (0 hands, 99 errors, 0 duplicates)
2010/12/15 19:15:39: Import complete. 0 hands in 1 file were imported. (99 errors, 0 duplicates)

When I do a search on the line numbers in question, they are the start of the next tournament results' heading.

Eg. Line#700 = PokerStars Tournament #<TournamentNumber>, No Limit Hold'em

The entry before Line#700 is in Line#698 which says where I finished in the previous tournament. Eg. "You finished in <FinishID> place." The same goes for all the previous entries before the error occurs. It is my place finish for the previous tournament.

I haven't even got to think about how I'm going to import my Full Tilt results as there is no automated tool to request Tournament summaries. I simply have summaries in my Gmail account which I still haven't worked out how to download yet but I have sent emails to support@fulltiltpoker.com and submitted an online request through their webpage for some assistance. It's now been 24 hours since I sent the requests and I haven't received anything back from them yet though. Pretty slack compared to Pokerstars in my opinion. My Gmail account has over 6800+ emails so importing them into Entourage is going to be a very painful task IF that's my only option. I haven't found a way to simply import emails which have been labelled. From what I can find, if I import my emails into Entourage via POP or IMAP (I think POP is the only supported format which both Entourage and Gmail can use together), I have to import ALL of my inbox. *Sigh*

Can anyone please help explain to me how I can manually import my previous 100 Pokerstars tournament results into PT3 or even better, somehow convert the .htm data into something useful which I can use to manually import into PT3.

To add to this, Pokerstars has now sent me the 2 files again in .xls.

Is there a way I can convert the .xls files into PT3 readable files for manual import?

Request a tournament audit from the PokerStars client (via the Requests menu), and manually import the file they send you - PT3 should import it just fine and if you set all of the overrides it should reset your tournament types for all of your tournaments appropriately.

I actually did try that but forgot to mention it.

It was sent to me as .xls file with the column headings (and populated fields as required):

Transaction Details: Event amounts: Bankroll Balance:
ID Date/Time Action Object Game Account currency Balance bFPP mVPP yVPP FPP T-Money W-Money Balance TmVPP TyVPP TFPP T-Money W-Money
<snip>

So the audit includes all of my tournaments, satellites, cash games, transfers, rewards, Move Alloc Fpp, etc but it does not contain tournament summary details like players, finish, prizes, etc.

When I attempt to manually import the file, PT3 errors with:

2010/12/16 01:50:37: Import beginning
2010/12/16 01:50:39: Import file: /Users/<user>/Downloads/<user>.xls
2010/12/16 01:50:39: Unrecognized file format.
2010/12/16 01:50:39: Import complete. 0 hands in 1 file were imported. (0 errors, 0 duplicates)

When I tried to import the Tournament Summary they sent me as a .xls file, it had the following column names:

All RegularTournaments played by '<user>':

Default currency:  USD

Listing: Real Money    FPP Events    Freeroll

From: 2006-01-01-00.00.00
To: 2010-12-15-23.59.59

Date/Time Tourney Game Currency Buy-In ReBuys Rake Place Entries TLB Points Prize Bounty Awarded Target ID Qualified
AddOns

And when I attempted to import it, I got the following error:

2010/12/16 00:28:43: Import beginning
2010/12/16 00:28:45: Import file: /Users/<user>/Downloads/<user> Regular Tournaments.xls
2010/12/16 00:28:45: Unrecognized file format.
2010/12/16 00:28:45: Import complete. 0 hands in 1 file were imported. (0 errors, 0 duplicates)

*Apologies for the formatting, I copy & pasted directly from Excel*

Actually, under the Requests menu in the Pokerstars lobby, there is no option for "Tournament Audit".

I can do a Tournament Request which sends me up to my last 200 tournaments which I outlined in my initial post as not working for 200 tournaments but worked fine for 100 tournaments OR I can request a Player Audit between specific dates which I also have as an .xls file.

It's Requests --> Playing History Audit and I believe we need the format to be in CSV.

Ok. I just requested the Playing History Audit which was emailed to me in a .csv format. I actually wanted my playing history prior to 2009 as well but that wasn't an option with the Lobby request tool.

I then expanded the file using Stuffit Expander (it seems that Zipeg has issues trying to open the password protected file) and after opening it, I was presented with the following column headings:

Playing History Audit '<user>' from 2009-01-01 00:00 to 2010-12-15 23:59
Transaction Details Individual Transaction Amounts Running Balance
Date/Time Action Table Name / Player / Tournament # Game Account Currency Amount Accrued VPP Accrued FPP T Money W Money Balance Total Monthly VPP After this Transaction Total Yearly VPP After this Transaction Total Accrued FPP After this Transaction T Money W Money

I then attempted to manually import it into PT3 and received the following error:

2010/12/16 02:41:28: Import beginning
2010/12/16 02:41:30: Import file: /Users/<user>/Desktop/Playing history audit.csv
2010/12/16 02:41:30: Audit file error. Amount not found. (Line #9)
2010/12/16 02:41:31: - Tournament summary imported.
2010/12/16 02:41:31: Audit file error. Amount not found. (Line #9)
2010/12/16 02:41:31: - Tournament summary imported.
2010/12/16 02:41:31: Audit file error. Amount not found. (Line #9)
2010/12/16 02:41:31: - Tournament summary imported.
2010/12/16 02:41:31: Audit file error. Amount not found. (Line #9)
2010/12/16 02:41:31: - Tournament summary imported.
2010/12/16 02:41:31: Audit file error. Amount not found. (Line #9)
2010/12/16 02:41:31: - Tournament summary imported.
2010/12/16 02:41:31: Audit file error. Amount not found. (Line #9)
2010/12/16 02:41:32: - Tournament summary imported.
2010/12/16 02:41:32: Audit file error. Amount not found. (Line #9)
2010/12/16 02:41:32: + Complete (0 hands, 7 errors, 0 duplicates)
2010/12/16 02:41:32: Import complete. 0 hands in 1 file were imported. (7 errors, 0 duplicates)

Line 9 of the file is a 'Table Buy In' for a '0.50/1.00 NL Hold'em 1-1' cash game.

Do I need to somehow filter out all the tournament data instead? This audit VPP Status set, FPP Rewards, Tourn Register, Tourn Rebuy, Tourn Addon, Table leave, Table buyin, etc.

Another thing is that this file does not contain tournament summary details either which I need updated somehow.

That's odd that should be working - could you attach that file to a support ticket so that we could look into what could be causing this problem?

Dear Support,

This ticket can now be closed as I've managed to solve the problem.

After unzipping the .csv file sent to me by Pokerstars, I opened the file in Excel as it was set as the default application.

After viewing the file, I closed it and tried the manual import and received the error:

Audit file error. Amount not found. (Line #9)

After attempting a number of different alternatives (sorting, filtering, reformatting, etc), I was still getting the same error which lead me to believe that there was a column either added or missing from what PT3 expected.

After many hours of frustration, I decided to revert back to the original file sent to me by PokerStars, and rather than opening it in Excel, I opened it in TextEdit. After seeing that the file contained data, I closed it and tried the manual import again.

It worked with 1 error of:

Warning: Warning: Unrecognized game type: PokerStars Tournament #[tournamentID], Pot Limit Mixed PLH/PLO Buy-In: 8.00/0.80 (Line #2571)

It seems that if the .csv is opened with Excel, Excel somehow edits the formatting of the file but doesn't ask if you want to save changes upon closing it.

Can I make a suggestion that you put this into 1 of the FAQs as it is quite possible that other people have applications other than TextEdit or NotePad opening .csv files.

If possible, I would also suggest that you make a FAQ with templates for what fields are required for manually importing HH or tournament summaries from various sites. I found it quite frustrating that I couldn't find what a tournament summary had to contain as so it would be recognized by PT3.

I could see that the tournament summaries sent to me by Pokerstars had fields:

PokerStars Tournament #[tournamentID], [tournamentType]
Buy-In: $[buyIn]/$[rake] [currency]
[totalPlayerNumber] players
Total Prize Pool: $[prizePool] [currency]
Tournament started [yyyy/mm/dd [h]:mm:ss] [timezone] [yyyy/mm/dd [h]:mm:ss> ET]

and

You finished in [finishPlace] place (eliminated at hand #[handNumber]).

If I cashed in the tournament, it would also contain:

[finishPlace]: [user] ([location]), $[prize] ([prizePoolPercentage]%)

Are these the fields which are required to create a summary which PT3 would successfully import? Does it actually need the [prizePoolPercentage] as I found that the audit file sent to me doesn't contain that data.

I was at the point where I was researching how to generate my own .txt tournament summary file by extracting data from the audit or tournament summary files which I was emailed. This actually took quite some time as I had no idea how to do it and it was simply by accident that I decided to try opening the audit file and start from scratch.

Wild goose chase :(

Cheers.
