PT4 intall / Unable to connect...

Postby Tuuli75 » Tue Aug 07, 2012 3:10 pm

Hi,

I just installed PT4 (had PT3 before) but when trying to start it, I keep getting error message:

"Unable to connect to this database. Please check the configuration."

I have rebooted and tried both "dbpass" and "postgrespass" as passwords - no change. Please advice.

Is PostgreSQL installed on your machine? Can you still see your data in PT3 normally?

Yes, PT3 opens normally and I can see my history.

In Windows Explorer (My Computer) go to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\PokerTracker 3\Data\Config

Open the file "PokerTracker.cfg" in Notepad and find the section called [Database]. You will be able to see the PostgreSQL password there - use the same password in PT4.

If that doesn't work, you can remove the need for PostgreSQL passwords: How To: Remove PostgreSQL Password.

I am having this exact same problem...I just upgraded to PT4 from PT3 and i decided to delete my old PostgreSQL 8.3 and download (thru the link on your site) the 8.4 version. After i paid for my upgrade of PT4 i tried to use it and got the same error message as the OP. I dont care about my database of hand history since they are years old, so if i have to delete any and everything thats fine...i just want to be able to use my new PT4 as soon as possible...

Configure PostgreSQL Server
Server:localhost
Database User:postgres
Port:5432
Password:dbpass

when i click Connect
the error message reads: Unable to connect to this database. Please check the configuration.

Try the password postgrespass or the password svcPASS83 and one of those might work.

Tried the different passwords still didnt work. When i click Cancel this message pops up: Are you sure you want to cancel? PokerTracker won't be able to operate without PostgreSQL installed and configured.

Then i click Yes and this message pops up:

PokerTracker cannot operate without PostgreSQL.

Click Start type services.msc and click on it when it appears. Is the PostgreSQL service in the box that appears listed as running? If not, can you start it?

I was actually able to get everything running smoothly by deleting EVERYTHING including PT3. Now if i could only move my HUD on the table so i can actually see peoples SN and chip counts...No right click drag n drop feature on PT4???

Hold the control key down while you drag, or you can "unlock" the Hud via the PT-icon menu so that you can just drag normally (then lock&save when you're done).
