how to speed up popups stats

Postby c666666 » Wed Sep 26, 2012 2:57 pm

Hi, I got some popups with a lot of info that takes like 7 seconds to show. Once I clicked and it is showed, next time the popup stats are showed instantly. On speed and turbo tables it's a problem for me to wait 7 or 8 seconds, so can I speed up the calculation? I have experience with stats and I know that it's because the high volume of data in the popup. I tried some things like to have those stats on the main hud but the popups take the same time. I'd like to have those popups cached on memory or something before click on them.

Are these custom stats?
Popups are queried on demand (when opened the first time) to avoid causing delays for on-table stats.
The development team are aware of this issue but I will pass on your concerns.

Yeah, custom stats. I have a quad Q6600 2.4 mhz CPU and 4gb ddr2 ram and a ssd for the DB. Maybe if I got a better cpu and ddr3 I will gain significant PT4 speed? I need drop down the delay from 7 to 3 seconds at least . Or can I expect to get a new PT4 release soon with an improvement? Also, I have psql 8.3. I could try 9.0. Any tip? thanks

Going to PostgreSQL 9.0's 64 bit version will provide you some benefit so that is definitely something you can do. To make that happen you'll want to first backup your database via File -> Backup in PT4. Uninstall 8.3 and install 9.0-x64 from this link then use File -> Restore in PT4 to restore your database into 9.0.

You should see some improvement in responsiveness with that upgrade given your system, though exactly how much you'll see is still difficult to say; how large is your database and what kind of hard drive do you have?

My database is new, and will be not very large, maybe 50-100k hands per month. I have a ssd hard disk.

You're seeing 7 seconds for things to populate on an SSD? Something doesn't sound right there. Upgrading to 9.0-x64 will still help of course but I'm surprised at what you're reporting. Would you please restart PT4 using the Logging Enabled link on your Start Menu and reproduce this delay. Then please send us the PokerTracker4.log file via a support ticket so that we can investigate this further for you. You can find this file by clicking File -> Open User Data Folder in the main PT4 window. The file we need is the text file called PokerTracker that's in the folder that appears.

Thank you for your quick response.
Like I said, I'm 99% sure that it's because my custom stats. They uses a lot of variables and stuff. I overclocked my PC from 2.4 to 3 mhz and it take 6 seconds. If you can't give me a quick solution , maybe I should buy a new MB+CPU.

Custom stats definitely push things a lot harder. I'd still say going for 9.0-x64 is worthwhile - if you end up later deciding you want to upgrade your hardware that can help too, but you might as well make this change now and see what it gets you. It'll only cost you some time.

I installed 9.0 x64, and the time for show the popup is the same. A note: in the server status of postgreSQL, I don't see too much action while the popup is calculating . In fact, there's no action at all. Are you guys accessing to the sql server for those hud popups? The cpu use is at 25% after clicking for the popup (I got a quad cpu), Seems like the data is on PT4 memory and it's executing the script of stats/variables (or preparing the popup) with the cpu, or something related with that, is it? Maybe if PT4 take advantage of multi core cpus there will be a improvement. Once the popup is showed, the cpu usage drop down to normal usage.

Are you running our latest Beta? In the prior stable builds there was an issue relating to CPU usage and popups that should be fixed in the latest beta.
