Config. w/ Windows 8

Postby 3ebjunkie » Sun Mar 03, 2013 11:52 am

I just upgraded to windows 8, and when I attempt to open PT4 i am taken to the 'configure postgreSQL server'. I click connect with the default info, but poker tracker is unable to connect.

What am I doing wrong?

Did you already have PostgreSQL installed, or did PT4 install it for you?
It seems that on some Windows 8 machines the PostgreSQL installation has permissions issues, in which case this should work: Create a new folder on your C drive called PostgreSQL. Download this installer and run it and point it at that directory and it should work for you.

I believe PostgreSQL was installed on my computer when I first downloaded pt4 along time ago. However, this problem occurred right after I upgraded to win 8 and right after i tried to download the newest version of pt4. What do you mean by 'point is at that directory'?

Also, I already have a postgreSQL file on my C drive. Do I still need to create a new one?

Bring up the start screen and search for services.msc and click on it when it appears. Look for PostgreSQL in the list - is it there? Is the service running? If not, can you start it?

Yes, I suspect you'll need to re-install it. Check out the guide here for how to fully uninstall and re-install PostgreSQL.

Will re-installing it delete all of my old data?

If the data directory is intact and you install the same version of PostgreSQL into the same folder the data will be there. If you install a different major version then the databases will not be compatible (8.3 is a major version, as is 8.4, and 9.0 - and those are the major versions that PT4 supports).
