Unable to connect

Postby Vondur » Tue Nov 22, 2016 6:57 am

Hi

Sometimes Im unable to start PT4 and get this message:

"Unable to login to database (postgres). Reason: could not connect to server: Connection refused (0x0000274D/10061) Is the server running on host "???" and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432? "

Usually I only have to reboot my desktop once and then it will start to work. After last update 4.14.21 I didnt have this problem.

But today it reappered and doesnt go away. Ive rebooted several times. I did update norton today if that could affect it.

Thanks!

Locate and delete the postmaster.pid file if it is present (not "postmaster.opts" which may be there too). You can find that file in C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\9.3\data\ although you may have a different PostgreSQL version (e.g. 8.4, 9.0) or have it installed in C:\Program Files (x86). Once it's deleted, reboot and see if that resolves the trouble. Also make sure to follow the instructions given in the Security Software Configuration Guide to set the necessary exceptions for PokerTracker 4 and PostgreSQL.

Didnt have the postmaster file but I followed the guide and now it seems to work.

Weird that it worked AND didnt work with the same settings previously though.

Thanks!

Same problem has returned, or rather; it was probably the same thing all along. That it sometimes works and sometimes not, and I just had a streak of "not's" when I wrote the original post.

If you haven't already make sure to follow the instructions given in the Security Software Configuration Guide to set the necessary exceptions for PokerTracker 4 and PostgreSQL. If the trouble persists then click your Windows Start button then type the following command:

services.msc

and click on it when it appears. Do you see the PostgreSQL service in the list? Is it started, or can you start it?

Open the Event Viewer (in the same way - if you type 'event' you should see it). In the top left section, expand "Windows Logs" and click on "Application". Do you see any recent errors in the top center section for PostgreSQL? If you do let us know what they say.

Under services.msc postgres is listed as "starting". I cant do anything to it.

Under events I found this error:

"2016-11-25 19:11:07 CET FATAL: could not create shared memory segment: 8 2016-11-25 19:11:07 CET DETAIL: Failed system call was MapViewOfFileEx. "

Edit: found plenty of postgres errors in that list and all were the same.

That error typically means security software is interfering and stopping PostgreSQL from starting on your computer. As I mentioned before if you haven't already done so make sure to follow the instructions given in the Security Software Configuration Guide to set the necessary exceptions for PokerTracker 4 and PostgreSQL. If that does not help then you can try running a full system scan to check for infections on your computer and if that is OK temporarily uninstall your security software, reboot and try PokerTracker 4 again (don't visit web sites, download other files or emails until you have reinstalled your security software). This error is also most common in older PostgreSQL versions e.g. v8.4 so if the trouble persists and you are using an old PostgreSQL then you should consider upgrading to a more modern version (v9.3 is our recommended version at this time):
