Vacuuming Taking Forever

Postby kensmoe8 » Sun Jul 27, 2008 11:13 am

I'm currently vaccuuming my database and it seems to be taking a lot longer than it should. I know the timing all depends on how large the database is, and I realize that mine is probably pretty large, but it has been running for close to 24 hours. Is this normal? I'm using beta 15.

I wouldn't expect it to take that long, even for a big DB.
Beta 15 does have a vacuum which does a bit more work than previously, but still it shouldn't take that long.
I'm not absolutely sure, but I think I remember some of the postgres experts saying that you won't do any harm to the DB by stopping the vacuum.

Thanks. I'll try to stop the vacuum, restart postgres (prob. just reboot machine) and try again.
